Amerisleep produces five types of mattresses; all foam and hybrid versions. This post will discuss all-foam, memory foam mattresses today – the AS1 and AS2. Before we delve into the comparison of the two mattresses, we must first learn the basics about the two.

Amerisleep AS1 Mattress

The AS1 mattress is the lowest-priced, firmest mattress from Amerisleep. This queen-size mattress is stuffed with all the standard goodness you would expect from this brand. The mattress has a firm feel focused on the back and stomach, and it comes with great support; it also has a very stylish cover that generates cooling. It is the perfect choice for stomach and back sleepers. The 10-inch mattress fits any bed frame. Its sleep-promoting layers are designed to deliver comfortable rest for a very long time.

Amerisleep AS2 Mattress

The AS2 is the second firmest from the line of Amerisleep mattresses. This mattress uses the cover of open-cell memory foam. It has a 3-inch transition layer of polyfoam that offers a bouncier feel to the sleepers without allowing them to sink inside the mattress. This medium-firm mattress is engineered to enable healthy alignment of the spine. It is definitely one of the best mattresses for people with back pain. The AS2 mattress is perfect for stomach and back sleepers.

Key Similarities

  • Both mattresses have Refresh Cooling Cover to draw away heat and keep the sleeper cool throughout the night.
  • Amerisleep uses specially designed fire sock instead of chemical-based fire retardant on both AS1 and AS2 mattresses. The fire guard of Amerisleep is certified with GreenGuard.
  • Both mattresses use 4.0-pound memory foam.
  • Designed to provide cooling, comfort, and support
  • The AS1 and AS2 mattresses use VPF (Variable Pressure Foaming) technology. This process allows for the prevention of all pollutants during the manufacturing time.
  • Comes with a bio-core base.
  • Both mattresses are best suited for back and stomach sleepers

Key Differences

  • The AS1 mattress is 10 inches thick, while the AS2 is 12 inches thick
  • The AS2 mattress has a 3″ affinity layer that is missing in the AS1 mattress
  • The AS1 is the firmest mattress from the Amerisleep line of mattresses, whereas the AS2 mattress is medium firm

Construction

The AS1 mattress by Amerisleep is an all-foam mattress that comes with just two layers. The mattress has 2” of Bio-Pur foam engineered to be breathable, responsive and comfortable. The support layer of the AS1 mattress contains 8″ of Bio-Core foam which is found in all the other mattresses of Amerisleep; the support layer provides firmness and durability to the mattress. The mattress comes with Refresh Cooling Cover that gives a very cool feel. The plant-based covering makes it more eco-friendly in comparison to the other foam mattresses.

Just like AS1, the AS2 also features Refresh Cooling Cover. Hence it feels cool to touch. The cover is designed in such a way that it converts body heat into infrared energy that improves circulation and aids in muscle recovery. Perfect for the athletic body. The main comfort layer of the AS2 is made of 2” Bio-Pur foam. This CentiPUR-US-Certified layer is made from plant-based, open-celled material.

Below the Bio-Pur foam, there lies a 3″ HIVE transition layer. The mattress is zoned to feel softer around the shoulders and hips, and it is a bit firmer around the head, legs, and back. The base layer has 7” of high-density Bio-Core foam. The mattress derives its overall support and structure from this material.

CONCLUSION

Both AS1 and AS2 are the firmest mattresses out of all the five models produced in this line. However, AS1 is slightly more firm in comparison to AS2. The fundamental difference between the two mattresses lies in their construction, the AS1 offers two layers, but the AS2 comes with an additional 3-inch HIVE transition – this material adds extra contouring pressure relief to the mattress. AS1 is suitable for both stomach and back sleepers. But, if you need back pain relief, then the AS2 is ideal for you. Both mattresses are suitable for heavy sleepers who need more support, contouring, and comfort.
