The mattresses are handmade in Los Angeles using the finest domestic and international materials. Avocado organic Luxury Mattress features 17 premium layers of organic and natural latex, hemp, wool, silk, and cotton, in conjunction with up to 3,136 individually pocketed coils. These pocketed coils are arranged in five zones for support and motion isolation. The mattress is climate Neutral Certified and is regarded as the softest mattress by the Avocado brand. The mattress is shipped flat and not roll-packed.

Material & Construction

1. Can you walk us through some of the unique technology, design and materials used in construction of Avocado Luxury Organic mattress? Why it is so important?

The Avocado Organic Luxury Mattress is constructed using layers of organic cotton, alpaca fiber, silk, wool, and mohair. The core is constructed from individually wrapped coils and Dunlop latex.

Let us start with the cover material. The cover is prepared from 100% organic cotton, certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).

• The mattress cover is made from breathable organic cotton. Underneath the cover lies a top panel that comprises of organic wool layers, 2 inches of alpaca fiber, second layers of wool beneath alpaca fiber, and cotton canvas. All of the mentioned materials are soft and give excellent temperature control, plus they are ethically and responsibly sourced. The Responsible Wool Standard certified the wool.
• The top panel is placed on a gusset that features a 2-inch layer of organic Dunlop latex integrated with three cut-out zones designed to offer targeted support and better airflow. Underneath is a layer using organic wool, silk, and mohair.
• Below the gusset lies multiple layers of cotton and wool, followed by a solid 2-inch layer of Dunlop latex placed on an organic hemp pad. The support core features 8-inch wrapped coils layer. These are further split into five distinct zones, providing extra support for heavier areas of the body. Then lies an additional hemp pad to surround the mattress.
• The plush model is different from the standard version based on additional layers in the pillow-top. This model consists of a 3-inch layer of microcoils and a mix of cotton, wool, and silk. These extra materials provide the mattress with a softer feel and a thicker profile.
• The brand does not use chemical adhesives. The mattress is tufted together with a needle. It also has reinforced handles. The textiles and the latex are Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), and the Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) certified. The mattress also meets GREENGUARD Gold and OEKO-TEX standards for low emissions. The mattress is manufactured without using flame retardants or harsh chemical treatments.
