Product Description

Saatva Latex Hybrid is an advanced version of the flagship Saatva mattress, replacing its foam with 5 zone Talalay latex. It results in a responsive mattress that conforms gently and does not sink too much. As you might have come across, Talalay is extracted from latex in a two-step process that ensures consistency. It has the advantage of better airflow than foam, making it cooler and more environmentally friendly. It is a hypoallergenic hybrid mattress, which is all-natural, with an innerspring’s responsive feeling. As the name suggests, it is a latex mattress made of 100% natural Talalay latex that’s OEKO-TEX Standard 100, eco-INSTITUT, Rainforest Alliance, and Cradle to Cradle certified. Besides being softer, durable, and breathable, Talalay is also more consistent in firmness than Dunlop and is eco-friendly. It is 13 inches thick mattress with a firmness rating of 6 and is made up of 5 layers.

Firmness

The Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress is a medium-to-medium firm mattress with a firmness level of 6. The bed’s high firmness and a cushioning comfort layer along the surface give plenty of support for back sleepers and stomach sleepers; though, it may prove to be a bit too firm for side sleepers to remain comfortable. Shoulders and hips of stomach sleepers sink into the mattress sufficient to support proper spine alignment and cushion the pressure points.

Material & Construction

The Saatva Latex Hybrid comes in thin layer of organic wool belting that serves as a fire barrier thus protecting the mattress and keeping one safe. The natural ability of wool to be breathable helps the surface to stay cool. A layer of Talalay latex of 3 inches is infused just underneath the woolen layer. Talalay being light and bouncy latex, gently attune with the body, thus preventing excessive sinking. To help more airflow near the surface of the mattress, Talalay is ventilated with more holes. The support core of the mattress comes in pocketed coils in a zoned configuration. Along the mattress perimeter, thicker coils are laid out to help push back when one gets on or off the bed leading to minimum sinking. For the interior of the mattress, thinner coils are used to avoid the stiff feeling of the edges.

The mattress is covered in breathable organic cotton that helps to keep away dust mites, mold, and other allergens.

  • Layer 1: The first layer is Organic New Zealand Wool, which is 100% GOTS certified organic wool and is a natural flame retardant. It helps in regulating body temperature thus offering extra breathability.
  • Layer 2: This layer is the core of this mattress, which is a 5-zone Talalay latex with distinct density zones for enhanced support in the lumbar region.
  • Layer 3: This layer consists of 3 unique zones of steel coils, two each on opposite sides and one in the middle. It offers necessary edge support without compromising motion transfer.
  • Layer 4: This is a very thin layer, and provides the mattress with a stable base and prevents the layers from shifting.

Repositioning

(4.25/5)

Beds that sink excessively and react slowly to body movements can be challenging to change positions and move across for people weighing over 230 pounds. The Saatva Latex Hybrid is free from these issues. The latex layer is very responsive and sinks very little, thus providing comfort and not being trapped in the mattress. The coils in zoned configuration also make it easy for movement across the interior to the perimeter of the mattress. Thicker coils provide the necessary support to the edges; thus, getting on and off the bed is not problematic.

Comfort, Back Support, Pressure Relief

(4.25/5)

The comfort level provided by Saatva Latex Hybrid is best suited for people in the middleweight range (150-250 pounds). People below this weight might experience a small amount of pressure build-up due to inadequate sinking, while people above this weight range may experience insufficient support. Latex is firmer than memory foam and reduces the feeling of sagging, thus making it more comfortable for those enjoying the idea of sleeping “on” the mattress instead of “in” it. The organic cotton cover and wool fire barrier offer temperature control that allows sleeping cool. Talalay latex is more ventilated, than Dunlop or memory foam, allowing better air circulation. Finally, the coil support base also has a lot of space for air circulation. So, this is a perfect option for hot sleepers.

The natural latex used in the mattress provides buoyant and pressure-free support. The mattress provides excellent pressure relief by giving balanced support to the pressure points leading to better sleep. The supportive nature of the mattress helps to feel well-supported when sleeping on the stomach, thus allowing the hips to stay elevated and aligned with the spine.

Cooling & Temperature Control

(4.25/5)

One of the most attractive features that Saatva Latex Hybrid offers is how cool one can sleep. This bed is naturally temperature neutral. The organic cotton cover, being naturally breathable, provides a soft feel. The wool cushion beneath provides the necessary support to regulate temperature, getting rid of moisture, and the latex allows better heat dissipation and doesn’t react to body heat. This, along with a coil system that allows air to flow and heat to dissipate, ensures that little to no heat is trapped overnight.

Motion Isolation and Sharing a Bed

(4.25/5)

Motion transfer is a minimum in the Saatva Latex Hybrid model owing to its construction. The mattress creates a balanced feeling by adjusting when one makes a move but does not create excessive vibration. The pocketed coils used in the construction helps to keep buoyance to a bare minimum. As the coils are separated, movement on one coil doesn’t necessarily affect the coils around it. Besides that, using a dense yet contouring layer of Talalay latex adds comfort and helps relieve pressure. This is a bed that is easy to move on and offers minimal motion transfer, thus making it ideal for couples sharing a bed. Though most hybrid or coil mattresses can make one feel the partner’s movement, Saatva Latex Hybrid offers excellent motion isolation.

Edge Support

(4.25/5)

All Saatva beds have exceptional edge support due to their three-zone coil base with a differential coil gauge. Thicker coils on the perimeter are more resistant to sagging, making it easier to get on or off the bed. This is helpful, especially if you are heavyweight since the edge creates better pushback.

The Saatva Latex Hybrid uses durable materials that make the mattress ideal from center to edge. The Talalay latex and steel coils make Saatva Latex Hybrid one of the longest-lasting mattresses. Both innerspring coils and Talalay latex gives the mattress a solid structure; thus, the edges of the Saatva Latex Hybrid are sturdy enough to lie on comfortably, making it a consistent mattress. Most people will still find the edges to be supportive enough for sitting.

Recommendation based on sleeping style

The Saatva Latex Hybrid is a great choice for all sleepers, but it does fit specific types of sleepers.

  • Side Sleepers: Saatva Latex Hybrid has a firmness rating of 6. Thus, there is ample support on the shoulders and hips for side sleepers. However, the sinking might not be enough for people below 150 pounds of weight, and they might find the bed a little too stiff. A better option would be to go for the Saatva flagship mattress for such people.
  • Back Sleepers: Saatva Latex Hybrid is an excellent choice for all back sleepers since the medium firmness levels ensure the body remains on an even plane. The mattress supports the spine’s natural curve, thus making it an excellent choice for average-weight back sleepers. Saatva’s Latex Hybrid is placed better than other latex mattresses for people over 250 pounds due to the additional support from the coil base.
  • Stomach Sleepers: Direct support is needed around their midsection for appropriate lumbar alignment for stomach sleepers. For middleweight people, stomach support is a correct balance between conforming and supporting. However, the mattress tends to lean on one side for higher and lower-weight people. People who weigh below 130 pounds and are stomach sleepers may find the mattress a bit firm, but the mattress will feel somewhat supportive for those above 230 pounds.
  • Combination Sleepers-Those who alternate between various positions: Latex is firmer in structure than memory foam but more body-hugging than innerspring. The spring coil support with a combination of latex comfort layers makes the Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress a perfect fit for combination sleepers. However, the surface of the mattress may feel too firm for combination sleepers who tend to side sleeping, especially if they’re average-weight or lightweight.
